Dongfeng Motor Corporation, abbreviated as Dongfeng Group, also known as "China Second Automobile Group" and formerly known as "Dongfeng Motor Company", was established on June 25, 1991. Headquartered in Wuhan, it is a centrally managed super large automobile enterprise with a business scope centered on vehicle manufacturing, covering automobile research and development, parts and equipment production and manufacturing, automobile finance, automobile sales, travel business, etc. The current chairman and legal representative is Yang Qing.
Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. was formerly known as the Second Automobile Manufacturing Plant, which was founded in 1969. In 1978, it shifted its focus from military products to military civilian integration, with a civilian focus. In April 1981, Dongfeng Motor Corporation was officially established as a joint venture company.
In 1991, it became one of the top three truck manufacturers in the world in terms of production volume. In September 1992, Erqi officially changed its name to Dongfeng Motor Corporation. In July 1999, Dongfeng Motor Corporation's stock was successfully listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange with the stock code 600006.
In October of the same year, the produced heavy-duty trucks formed a missile formation and were reviewed during the National Day parade. In September 2002, Dongfeng and Nissan established Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. In July 2003, Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. officially began operations, and in the same month, Dongfeng and Honda formed "Dongfeng Honda Motor (Wuhan) Co., Ltd.
In 2007, Dongfeng Motor Corporation established the Passenger Vehicle Division.
In 2015, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. was established. In 2017, it was renamed Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. In 2020, the Lantu brand was launched. In 2024, a global innovation center will be established in Wuhan Economic Development Zone, and a commercial vehicle division will be established. In January 2025, the cumulative sales of automobiles reached 116790 units. In February, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Dongfeng Technology, and other state-owned and central enterprise groups planned restructuring matters.
In 1997, "Dongfeng" was awarded the first well-known trademark in China's automobile industry. Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. ranked 59th on the Fortune China 500 list in 2023 and 64th on the "China Enterprise 500" list in 2024.
